Microsoft office has the default font Calibri and many of us who are using MS Office since long and are shifting to Open Source Office suites on Linux machines are facing this difficulty of not having Calibri font available to Linux machine.
Micorsoft doesn't allow to use the Calibri font to be used on Linux machine. So what are our option:
- Either purchase the Calibri Font, Or
- Use the alternative/similar fonts at Linux
First option is always better if you want to use only Calibri font for your documents. You can purchase and install the calibri font and start using it in either LibreOffice/OpenOffice or any other word processor.
Second option is to use any alternative or similar font. There are plenty of fonts available which are close to the Calibri font, but I personney feel that Open Sans font from Google is the closest to the Calibri and also it looks nice on the documents.
Below is the side by side comparison of both Open Sans and Calibri font:
Open Sans:
This
text uses the Open Sans font at 10 px. A font is the combination of
typeface and
other qualities, such as size, pitch,
and spacing. For example, Times Roman is a typeface that defines the
shape of each character. Within Times Roman, however, there are many
fonts
to
choose from -- different sizes, italic,
bold,
and so on. (The term font
is
often used incorrectly as a synonym for typeface.)
Calibri:
This
text uses the Calibri font at 11 px. A font is the combination of
typeface and
other qualities, such as size, pitch,
and spacing. For example, Times Roman is a typeface that defines the
shape of each character. Within Times Roman, however, there are many

You can easily see that Open Sans font is the closest to the Calibri font though we need to adjust the font size to make our document look nice and professional.
